Our Chess stars did well at the recent Inter School Chess Championships. The games were keenly contested and our pupils have done well for the school. We are truly proud of their achievements.

We also would like to celebrate Neha Shankar's (3/8) success at the World Schools Chess Championships.Neha got a Bronze medal for her individual performance in the 4th World Schools Chess Championships 2008 held in Singapore in the Girls U9 category. She was the only Singaporean to finish in the top 3 in her Under 9 age group. She also won a Gold medal with the Singapore team of which she was their top performer. The NJSC 2008 attracted 60 teams from all over Singapore. St Hilda's sent in 7 teams. After 4 gruelling games, our scrabblers have done us proud!In the bowl category, Team 6 came in 2nd! In the Plate category, Team 4 came in 1st place! In the Cup category, Team 5 came in 3rd place!

Sportsclub Activities at a glance

Our school Sportsclub members are having a blast with exciting activities throughout the terms. The new module has begun and already we see pupils enjoying themselves learning fun activities that they can carry on as recreational sports on weekends with family. Take In-Line skating for example, some of the kids are already learning how to skate backwards. Soccer boys and girls just relish the afternoons kicking on nice grassy fields at Tampines Stadium as compared to our poor Sahara desert field in school(going to be torn up in a while for PRIME). Floorball and Frisbee members learn new skills that may not have been taught at PE lessons. You can find out more at their website. Abielle Yeo Zhi Min from our school has come in 3rd in the D-Division Girls 50m Backstroke at the 43rd National Inter Primary School Swimming Championships. A 4th position at the Netball Nationals marked the end of a great week for the school. Our netballers have done the school proud to be part of the top four schools in this year's netball competition. Good job girls! Well done to Mr Zanizam and Ms Daisy Ng who coached the girls on their own all the way.

We are really proud of our boys efforts at the Nationals. They did not manage to progress further in the competition due to their strong opponents who throughly deserve to play in the next round. The team missed good chances to win certain games and can only look back and wonder what if. However, we have reflectde on what needs to be done and will go back to the drawing board. More importantly, we will work hard to be better in our next attempt at the Nationals. Keep working hard boys!

Proud moment for Netball girls

Our netball girls made it to the National Semifinals. They fought hard in a rematch against our close rivals Tanjong KAtong Pri Sch. TKPS has a good tradition of winning netball competitions so it was no surprise they took a commanding lead in the 1st half. Our girls look a little overawed by the occassion. However, after a pep talk from Mr Zanizam, they burst onto the courts in the 2nd half with a more aggressive spirit. They caught up to within 3 goals. Alas, they could not match the strength of the TKPS team. The final score read 19-11 but the girls should be proud of themselves for achieving this feat which has not been seen for some time in SHPS. A lot of it has to be due to Mr Zanizam and Ms Daisy Ng's hard work with the girls. Their victories are far sweeter as they train without external coaches and so much of the success belongs to them! In the past, we used to do very well at netball and so it is great to be up there again with the best.

Week 2 of Term 3 marked the start of 5 National Competitions. Bowling, Hockey, Sailing, Netball and Table Tennis have been in action in mostly prelimanary rounds of the National Schools competition.

Sailing completed their events yesterday and the school is proud to report that the Sailors have done us proud again. Both our boys divisions obtained a 1st position and our girls both came in 3rd. It was a tiring 4 days but all the efforts of the sailors, teachers in charge and the wonderful parents who chipped in over the last 6 months have paid off. Congratulations again to them.

Our Hockey boys played a nail bitting 1st game against Jurong West. They won 2-1 scoring in the last second. More on that story can be found at our hockey website. Click on the link on the right of this page.

Our netball girls are poised for a semi-final spot if they can beat their last opponents next week. It has already been a blessing that the girls made it to the Nationals after finishing 2nd in the zones so we are truly proud of their achievements.

Our bowlers also have taken their 1st step in participating in a National competition and gained valuable experiences from the championships. We will hear more from them in days to come on their website. Keep them in your prayers as there are 2 more rounds of competitions.

Our Table-tennis players are also in the midst of competition playing against many traditionally strong table-tennis schools. We hope the pupils will gain from the experiences and do the school proud no matter what the result.

The School wishes all competitors the Lord's blessings and reminds them that we are behind them all the way!! Go St.Hilda's!

So far, after 4 days of blistering heat, keen rivalry and unpredictable factors from the weather and sea, our sailors have donw extremely well. Our Senior boys came up with a 1st position and our Senior Girls came through with a respectable 3rd. This after trailing in 4th position for some of the earlier races. Good job girls.

Our Jr teams are still at it. They will complete their final races tomorrow but the score so far puts us in 1st position for Jr Boys and 2nd for Jr Girls. Lets keep them in our prayers.

Welcome back to a 2nd semester of fun. Our CCAs have begun and inline skating is a real hit with the students. The kids pick up skills for blading confidently. This semester we can look forward to many interesting activities. Our CCAs are in the midst of various National Competitions. Sailing, Hockey, Rope Skipping, Netball, Table-Tennis, Scrabble, Chess, Bowling and many more CCAs will be reporting on their exploits. Our Netball team's amazing journey to the East Zone Finals

SHPS had an amazing week of results. Last Thursday was no different. We saw our Netball team play Tanjong Katong Pri Sch in both the Senior and Junior zonal finals. Both teams lost but have earned SHPS a 2nd place at the East Zone and an automatic qualification to the Nationals. This was an impressive achievement for both our teachers especially when all our teams are coached by them. We overcame many well-trained schools who had professional coaches guiding their teams. A standing ovation for the two teachers who spend many hours drilling the team in tactics.

The final had our teams playing the defending champions TKPS who also by the way are coached by teachers. Our teams had the support of 50 strong SHPS cheer group comprising of Hockey boys and pupils from other levels. The girls never let them down with a great fight. The scoreline was admirable as TKPS were a really strong team. Our girls showed what it is like play for the pride of the school. The supporters had drums and pom poms courtesy of Mr Aidil, Mr Noh, Mr Suhaimi, Mr Zakie and Mrs Amanda. For our coaches stress turned to joy as their teams did them proud by some slick passing and good shooting at times. It does say a lot about how TKPS played though, they were exceptional. We congratulate all teams and wish them all the best for the Nationals.

It is truly our year with 4 Gold awards for our SYF performances. The latest coming from Guzheng and String Ensemble. This has been a blessing from God and we truly congratulate the team for their success. All the teachers,pupils and even parent volunteers put in so much work preparing for these performances. Both the performances were held at the Republic Poly and as seen by the kids faces, they had a good time. I had the privilege to watch both performances and enjoyed each piece played. We look forward to our teams playing for us one day at one of our own school events. Our SYF achievements are as shown follows:

Hockey boys come in 3rd at NATIONALS!

Our Senior Boys team completed their National Tournament with a 3rd place finish. Their journey ended last Friday, 18/4/08 at Delta Stadium where it was an all Saints affair. St.Andrews Junior played our boys and it was a close game. The boys won 1-0 with a beautifully worked goal by Rudi from a layoff from Tarmizi. We like to salute all the boys in their galant effort this year. Every player played a part in the team's success.The game marked the end of a long journey for our Seniors boys and will be a great memory for them to take away from their primary school life. Mr Zanizam and Ms Daisy must be really proud of their teams who have made it to the East Zone semifinals thus qualifying them for the Nationals next term. Their two teams have really played some exciting Netball and hope to do the school proud by making it to the finals. They had difficult opponents in Tanjong Katong Pri but Mr Zanizam believes this year the girls have a strong desire to do well. We wish him and his team all God's blessings. Go Forward girls.

The CIP was carried out by our pupil librarians at the Tampines Regional Library on 8 April 2008. During the 2 hours of CIP, our pupils helped sort and shelve books after which they read to pre-schoolers, aged 3yrs to 7 yrs. The activity is carried out on the 2nd Tuesday of every month by different groups of librarians from 2 pm to 4 pm. Indian Dance does it again!

They moved. They danced. They won. Our Indian Dancers have done our school proud yet again. Their Gold achievement at the recent SYF performances are a testiment to the hard work put in by the whole team. From the Dancers to the parents to their Dance teachers and coaches. We have been truly blessed with the rope skipping results at the recent East Zone competition. A big thank you to all the rope skippers for all the hard work they put in. This is my 1st entry of a 6 part series on SYF groups in our school. Currently, we have 6 SYF performing groups. This week we will talk about our Dancers. They are training very hard for the upcoming SYF performances. They are truly an inspiration to many other young aspiring dancers who look up to them. Their grace is shown in every move made and you can see how much hard work goes into their training. Each training requires maximum partcipation and a lot of concentration on steps and coordination. If one person gets her step wrong, the whole formation is affected. timing and teamwork are essential. It helps that they have great teachers who encourage them at every training. Ms Chan and her team go out of their way to ensure the best for their girls. Go get them GIRLS! The whole school is proud of them and wish them all the best in their SYF performance in April.

Information for parents regarding CCA

Dear Parents,

Every year, many of you would have queries about CCA. I would like to address the issue on recruitment. CCAs are compulsory for all P4 to p6 pupils. Most have already joined a CCA from as young as P2. For those who are new to the school and who wish to sign up with a new CCA, recruitment occurs at different times of the year.

Due to the availability of resources and teachers, CCAs may wait till mid-year or even end of the year before approaching the P3s to recruit them. For example, the P3 hockey pupils will only be recruited after the P6 tournament in May as they retire from CCA to concentrate on their PSLE. This frees up the teachers to take on another group of pupils.

As such, we recommend P3 pupils to wait till various CCA teachers come around to their classes to recruit them or ask them to attend CCA trials or selections later on in the year. This info can be found on respective CCA websites, notice boards, morning announcements and door to door advertising by individual CCA teachers. P3 pupils need not worry about finding a CCA immediately.

Do spend sometime looking through individual CCA blogs/websites for more details about training sessions, expectations and other issues pertaining to that particular CCA. If you still have questions, do leave a message with the office for that particular CCA teacher i/c. The teacher will be in touch when the time permits. Bowling will be started in the school and is being led by Mr Joseph Lim who actively plays when he cans. The Sports Club introduced Inline Skating last year. This year, more interesting sports are lined up. More details will be made known to you in March once details of the new sports have been finalised.

Scrabble teams win big at Nationals Jr Championships

The scrabble team did well last weekend at the 3rd National Junior Scrabble Championships 2007 (8th Sep). Out of 80 teams that took part, 4 teams clinched honours for the school. Our team won the following,
- 3rd place in the Plate Category
- 5th, 4th and 2nd place in the Cup Category

Bishan Scrabble Challenge (2 June)
St Hilda’s Primary sent 5 teams to the competition, with a total of 50 teams participating.
Team 4 achieved 3rd position in the Bowl Category
Team 1 achieved 1st position in the Cup Category
Inter School National Scrabble Championships – Grand Finals (31 July)
Out of the top 46 teams that made it to the Grand Finals, 3 teams are from St Hilda’s Primary.
Team 2 managed to clinch a very respectable 3rd place

Hockey boys make it to the top four in National Jr Championships

Our Jr Boys have done well at the Nationals this year. Their 4th place finish is commendable. They lost in the semifinals to the eventual champions, Punggol. The team comprised of 15 primary 5 boys and 5 primary 4 boys. More on their performances at their webpage. Good job boys.

Isabel our Star Swimmer

Isabel represented the school at the recent National Swimming Competition and did well in her event. Her time of 39.02 helped her to achieve a 2nd place in the 50m Breast Stroke. She has done the school proud. Other swimmers who took part were Zandra Chew Yann, Jerilyn Hui Man Ling, Michael Sia Chen Han, Chua Kang Keat and Ian Choo Ji Yuen. Even though the school does not have swimming as a CCA, these pupils were given opportunities to represent the school in the Nationals. They train very hard with personal coaches and have benefited from the experience. We hope they will continue to strive in their training. Good job swimmers!

The next big thing....Inline Skating

Sports Club welcomed a new sport to the list this year with Inline skating for our P6s. This programme was introduced due to the feedback obtained from the focus group discussions last year. As such, this feature CCA will exists as long as it continues to garner the same interest. Currently, 30 boys and girls are in the module and we hope to extend it to other levels in the future.

Racial Harmony through Dance

Our 3 Dance groups gave us an idea how racial integration can take place through our CCA activities. The blend of colours and coordination from all 3 dance groups is called Dance Fusion and was conceptualised by the NE committee and the 3 Dance group teachers. Their efforts to put together a combined performance has been commendable and we salute their teams for a job well done. May their teams go on to learn about each others strengths and maybe learn some new ideas for their SYF performances.

P5 Boys come in 2nd in the Floorball Nationals

Our P5 Hockey boys did us proud at the recent floorball Nationals by coming in 2nd. They beat many strong teams to make it to the finals. Led by Mr Aidil, the boys played their hearts out at every game and gave it their all. Let's give them a pat on the back when we see them the next time along the corridor for a job well done. They will now work hard to prepare for the National Hockey tournament in July. To God be the glory.

Our Jr Netball girls made it to the Nationals this year. They achieved a 4th place finish in the Zonal competition. Their teacher/coach Ms Daisy Ng has done a good job developing them. Mr Vai believes that there is a lot of promise in the squad. We are proud of the girl's achievement and hope they will do equally well in the Nationals.

St.Hilda's 0 - Punggol 1

It was a gripping final where both teams played hard for the school's National title. Both teams battled hard in the first half from the first whistle but Punggol converted their penalty short corner well. The Punggol No.4, Syakiran received the ball just outside the D and sent an unstoppable ball pass the Hildan defence.
St.Hilda's fought back but both teams seemed to be equally matched. In the second half, Syakiran again dominated the Punggol attack and even as St.Hilda's tried to put up a spirited come back, they could not convert their chances. The final whistle signalled wild celebrations from the travelling supporters from Punggol. Punggol had earlier won the Senior Girls final and so a historic double was achieved today. Congratulations PUNGGOL!

We are very proud of our hockey boys who worked very hard to get to the finals. The school salutes them and is proud of their two achievements over the last 2 years. To be able to make to National finals is a proud achievement for SHPS and we hope they will remember the strong friendships made throughout their Hockey days.

Last Friday, 13/4/07, our rope skippers took part in the East Zone rope skipping competition. They did very well and the results are as follows.

We are truly blessed to have won the awards and also have our teacher in charge, Mrs Jane Chong for her efforts in guiding them and our ex-pupil cum coach Rachel Baby who prepared the team for the competition. Finals here we come

It was a stressful semifinals for the coaches as the team won on penalties yesterday. The overall game was not pretty as both teams found it hard to break each others defences. As such, even after extra time, both teams had to resolve to flicks to decide the game. Our hearts go out to Huamin who put up a good fight and held us all the way to the end. In the true spirit of sportsmanship, they cheered for us at the end and we shook hands as a sign of respect for each other's team.

It was the clash of last year's finalists, St.Hilda's Pri vs Casuarina Pri. The two teams seemed calm and ready for an exciting game. Both teams wondered whether there had been improvements in skill after a year since their titanic clash in last year's final.

The game started and within the first 10 minutes, SHPS had scored 2 beautiful worked goals. By the end of the first half, St.Hilda's had taken a 4 goal lead. The game was not totally dominated by St.Hilda's as Casuarina put up a good fight in the second half. That's how the score ended and both teams sportingly shook each others hands to signify the good fun they had that day.

We now look forward to a semifinal match against Huamin Primary. The game will be held at Delta Sports Complex at 4pm on Wednesday 11/4/07. Do bring your drums and clappers to cheer on the team.

Here are results of the 1st and 2nd matches in the Preliminary rounds of the East Zone Table Tennis Championships:

Senior Boys Division:

St. Hildas Primary lost to Kong Hwa School 3-2
St. Hildas Primary bt Qiao Nan Primary 4-1

To conclude:

The boys have to play their final match to decide if they can finish top in their prelim group (although qualified for the semi-finals) while the girls have to play 4 more matches to decide if they can achieve a top-four finish in the zone. All matches will be played on the 4th, 10th and 12th April 2007.

To conclude:

The St. Hildas Junior Boys will play in the final against Yu Neng Primary while the Girls will play for the third and forth place position against Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School. Both matches will play on the 2nd April at Kong Hwa School in the afternoon.

Thank the Lord for his great blessings to both the girls and boys teams and hope that he will continue to bless them throughout this entire Senior Div championships.

These are the fixtures for the upcoming Hockey games. The P6 boys are up against some strong teams in the group stages of the competition. Last year they won the Jr title. They have trained hard and will now do their best to bring glory for the school.

New CCAs at St.Hilda's

This year we have been privilege to announce 2 new CCAs. Scrabble and Rope Skipping have been introduced in January. Scrabble is headed by our very own Mr Suhaimi. A ranked Scrabble player himself, Mr Suhaimi's passion for Scrabble has led him to form a team from scratch. The team will represent the school at various competitions and we will see more of them as the year progresses.

The Rope skipping team are being coached by our very own ex-pupil Rachel Baby. She has had numerous accolades accredited to her name. She has represented Singapore in Interenational competitions too. Her sister, Ariel is also part of our team and we look forward to hearing about their fun activities and experiences at the upcoming East Zone competition.
